Luis Castillo-Briceño is currently Conducting Fellow of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) for the season 23/24 mentored by Principal Conductor Edward Gardner. He had his UK debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in November 2023 at the Brighton Dome and will perform several other concerts with the LPO during his tenure with the orchestra. Named by the BBC Music Magazine as a “Rising Star”, Luis has been an Equilibrium Young Artist since the 20/21 season, mentored by conductor and singer Barbara Hannigan. He has assisted her with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra a.o. Luis holds a bachelor’s degree in piano from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and has been studying conducting with Prof. Mark Stringer and Prof. Sian Edwards at the Universtität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He is pursuing a Specialized Masters at the ZHdK (Zurich) with Prof. Christoph-Mathias Mueller and Prof. Johannes Schlaefli. Future engagements as assistant conductor include the Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. As guest conductor, Luis has appeared with orchestras such as the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica de Heredia (Costa Rica) etc.
