Joel Sandelson recently won third prize at the Siemens Hallé International Conductors Competition 2020 and was previously a participant in the Malko Competition 2018. He recently completed two years as Assistant Conductor at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and is also director of the period instrument orchestra Wond’rous Machine. He has conducted orchestras including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Cincinnati Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony, Sofia Philharmonic and Red Note Ensemble. Joel graduated with a double starred first in Music from Cambridge University in 2016 and then studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music with Sian Edwards, gaining the DipRAM prize. He has also studied with conductors including Martyn Brabbins, Jorma Panula, Mark Stringer, Sir Roger Norrington and Thomas Søndergård.
