Anton Holmer has in a short time established himself as one of Sweden’s most dedicated and promising young conductors. He has recently been appointed assistant conductor with the Orchèstre National de Lyon and their music director Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider starting in autumn 2021. Since his professional debut with the Jönköping Sinfonietta in 2018 he has received invitations from orchestras such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and the Gävle Symphony orchestra. Anton has received several scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and he has taken part in masterclasses with Bernard Haitink and Jorma Panula.
Pursuing his interest in historically informed performance practice, he founded his own orchestra “The Swedish Symphony” in 2020, playing classical and early romantic music on period instruments. Anton studied at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart, the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Lyon and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He is also a trained organist and holds a master’s degree in organ performance.
He is a keen craftsman and makes his own conducting batons.
